What is Taiwan National Day?
Observed every year on 10 October, Taiwan National Day is commonly known as Double Ten Day because it falls on the tenth day of the tenth month. Its official name is the National Day of the Republic of China. The date commemorates the Wuchang Uprising of 10 October 1911, an event that began the Xinhai Revolution and helped bring about the end of Qing imperial rule. The Republic of China was established in 1912.
Today, the holiday is marked with official ceremonies and public celebrations. Events can include performances, civic groups and parades; fireworks may also be part of celebrations in different locations. The programme and venues can change from year to year, so check local announcements if you’re planning to attend an event.
