What is Double Ten Day?
Observed on 10 October, Double Ten Day is the common name for the National Day of the Republic of China. The date commemorates the Wuchang Uprising of 10 October 1911, an event that helped launch the Xinhai Revolution and led to the end of Qing rule. The Republic of China was formally established in 1912. The name “Double Ten” refers to the two tens in the date, 10/10.
In Taiwan, National Day celebrations may include a flag-raising ceremony, performances, speeches and, in some years, a parade. Fireworks displays are also part of the festivities, with events and locations varying from year to year. This illustration focuses on the shared, family-friendly atmosphere of a Taiwan National Day celebration rather than depicting a specific official event.
